Introducing the 2020 TBD Race Calendar

With the opening race of the 2020 season just over one month away, our public 2020 race calendar is officially up and running for the season ahead. Targeted at New York tri-state area riders, we combine multiple sources including NYSBRA, Bikereg and crowdsourcing, to maintain a full listing of events up and down the East Coast, as well as a few of our favorite out of town races.

The calendar spans disciplines from road to gravel to CX, MTB and Track and we hope that it is helpful for planning your 2020 event schedule. A few highlights for the year ahead as the 2020 calendar gets underway in just a few weeks time:

• In perhaps the most interesting news for the new calendar, the CRCA Grant’s Tomb Criterium appears likely to move off its traditional season opening date and instead appears mid-summer in the latest NYSBRA race schedule (June 27), which would effectively guarantee the warmest Grant’s Tomb in history (though 2016 was pretty nice).

• The CRCA Bear Mountain Classic returns as this year’s Road Race State Championship on May 9. This should ensure another big edition of one of the few remaining road races close to NYC, but even if you’re not up for racing up Tiorati, there is always the bikepacking and spectating option for this one.

• The 2020 New York State Criterium Championship will be an upstate affair hosted at the T-burg Crit on August 15th. We haven’t had the opportunity to see this event first hand and the overlap with both D2R2 and SBT GRVL is a bit of a bummer, but if you want to be New York State criterium champ, this one is for you.

• More gravel than ever: with so much growth coming from the gravel scene, this year’s race calendar features more gravel than ever including new events like the Rothrock Gravel Grinder. We also announced the team’s planned gravel calendar last week, if you’re looking for events to join. If we’re missing any East Coast gravel events, definitely drop us a note!

• We haven’t seen an official announcement regarding Floyd Bennett Field, but the full assortment of events in Prospect Park and Central Park are back for 2020 and appear from March until August on the race calendar. For CRCA fans the NYSBRA calendar shows the 3 Central Park open races as May 30 (Dave Jordan Central Park Classic), July 12 (Lou Maltese Memorial), and July 26 (Mengoni Grand Prix) as well as the Orchard Beach Criterium returning on May 3.

• For the track racers, based on the NYSBRA calendar it looks like the Endurance State Championships will be held on June 14, while the Sprint State Championships will be August 16th. Junior State Champs are tentatively penciled in for September.

• Other races of note (mostly pulled from the NYSBRA calendar) include the Harlem Criterium on June 21st (the weekend prior to the new date for Grant’s Tomb), Longsjo Classic on June 28 (the day after Grant’s Tomb), and the Lime Rock Grand Prix on May 31st.
